Evictions:

Landlords can now give tenants only a 30-day notice to evict them (Civil Code 1946.1)

The law used to require landlords to give tenants at least a 60-day notice to evict them if the tenant had lived in the unit over a year. This law expired in 2005.
The law now requires only that landlords give tenants at least a 30-day notice to evict them, regardless of how long the tenant has lived in the rental unit.

This law does not apply if the tenant has a lease that has not expired, or if the rental unit is under rent control.

ActionDCA’s Consumer Service Unit takes complaints against landlords that do not give tenants proper notice. If the landlord gives the tenant proper notice but a tenant needs more time to move out, DCA’s Dispute Settlement Services may be able mediate an extension.
