Notaries Public:

Must safeguard their journal (Civil Code 1189; Penal Code 470).

Notaries public can be charged with a misdemeanor under this law if they fail to safeguard their journal or seal. This law also lets the Court revoke the commission of a notary public who is convicted of a felony.

People who solicit, coerce, or influence a notary public to not safeguard his journal can be charged with a misdemeanor under this law too.

ActionDCA’s Real Estate Fraud Unit takes complaints against notary publics who violate this law.
